THE CAMPAIGN

The federal government under Donald Trump is destroying America’s 250-year-old democracy at an alarming pace, along with the very values the Constitution is meant to protect. While American democracy has never been perfect, these principles must be defended today if they are to reach their full potential.

The founder of MAKE AMERICA GRACE AGAIN comes from an old German Nazi family and, ironically, spent his youth under the dictatorship that succeeded the Nazis, the GDR. Just as that regime was built on lies, persecution, and hatred, the same forces are taking shape today under the federal government in the United States.

Just as American soldiers once marched to defend the freedom of Europe, we now summon artists from every corner of the world to wield their art in defense of America’s liberty. Through their creativity, art itself will become our revenge.

If it looks like a lame duck, waddles like a lame duck, and quacks endless nonsense, we must face the truth, it really is a lame duck and not a graceful swan. Especially when this duck holds the power to tear the world apart.

Today, white Americans are confronting what oppressed peoples of all colors have faced for centuries, a regime that crushes humanity and suppresses resistance.

MAKE AMERICA GRACE AGAIN responds with artistic defiance, inviting artists worldwide to contribute to a decentralized, global exhibition that resists tyranny, sparks conversation, and reclaims grace through art.

The exhibition officially opens on July 4, 2026, the Independence Day of the United States, a date of exceptional significance this year, as the nation celebrates 250 years of American independence. It is a moment that reminds us why freedom must be defended, and why art remains one of the most powerful acts of resistance.

The theme MAKE AMERICA GRACE AGAIN resonates profoundly with this historic anniversary, inviting us not only to commemorate independence, but to renew its spirit with dignity, responsibility, and cultural and artistic courage.

The real MAGA 🌺

A truly ironic story connected to the fascist MAGA movement is that it claims the same name as Puerto Rico’s national flower, a hibiscus (Thespesia grandiflora) known in the Indigenous language as maga and maga colorada (red-colored maga). In 1898, the United States occupied Puerto Rico during the Spanish-American War and annexed the island.

That this fascist movement now happens to bear the name of the national flower of a territory embodying all the traits they so deeply despise is not only one of history’s bitter ironies, but also a reminder of how quickly ideologies can fade. Or, as Sir Terry Pratchett put it:

The whole thing is so absurdly artful that the real MAGA 🌺 has, almost without trying, become the pièce de résistance of our art campaign: proof, if proof were ever needed, that ideology has an almost magical talent for tripping over its own absurdity.

Artistic collaboration

The plan is simple: each artist contributes whatever they feel they want to offer to the project and publishes information about their artwork on their own website. That information will also be published and linked here on this site. This will initially create an online exhibition around the theme. In addition, international exhibition venues will be sought where artists can present their own exhibitions and actions on the theme together.
